Reglan helps to treat GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) in those patients who are not influenced by other medications. Reglan therapy should be a products_description- term treatment. This medication treats digestive problems symptoms in patients who have diabetes. Sometimes it may be taken for some other conditions as directed by your doctor.
How Taken
Take the medication as determined by your doctor. Read the medicine label for precise dosing instructions carefully. As a rule, Reglan is used by mouth half an hour before your meal. Contact your health care provider in case you have some questions about using Reglan.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Reglan is known to be an anti-nauseant and gastrointestinal stimulant. Reglan activates stomach movements and intestines for helping acid and food pass out of the stomach rapidly. Moreover, this drug decreases nausea.
Missed Dose
Take Reglan as determined by your doctor. In case you omit a dosage of Reglan, take it immediately. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up. Then go back to your usual schedule.
Storage
Keep Reglan at room temperature, between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Keep in a hermetic and light-resistant container. Store it away from light, heat and moisture. Do not store it in the bathroom. Save the medicine beyond the reach of children and away from pets.
Warnings Precautions
You must not use this medicine if:
you have allergies to its ingredients;
you are using medications causing extrapyramidal reactions;
you have stomach blockage; pheochromocytoma; epilepsy or bleeding;
you are currently using pergolide or cabergoline.
Sometimes certain medical conditions interact with Reglan. Tell your pharmacist or doctor in case you have the following medical conditions:
you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant;
you are breast-feeding;
you are currently using some herbal preparation, certain dietary supplement
or prescription/nonprescription medicine;
you are allergic to some substances (medicines, foods etc.);
if you have Parkinson disease, kidney problems, or low level of methemoglobin reductase, asthma, depression, heart/blood pressure problems, diabetes.
There are some medications interacting with Desyrel . Inform your health care provider in case you are currently taking any other medicines, especially the following ones:
Droperidol and cisapride may provoke severe side effects.
Monoamine oxidase inhibitors increase the danger of various side effects.
Effectiveness of pergolide, cabergoline or digoxin may be lowered by Reglan.
Anticholinergic medicines , narcotic pain medications and antihistamines may lower effectiveness of Reglan.
The danger of side effects of tetracycline, acetaminophen, alcohol, sedatives, levodopa, phenothiazines SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), succinylcholine may be hightened by Reglan.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor if any of these side effects take place:
dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; mood changes; skin numbness; dizziness; confusion; headache; insomnia; tiredness; diarrhea; increased sweating; loss of appetite; nausea; nervousness; upset of stomach; weakness; anxiety; low sexual ability; serious allergic reactions (chest tightness; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; rash; hives; difficulty breathing); feet/legs swelling; rapid gain of weight/ weight loss; weakness; fever; body discomfort; headache; loss of appetite; dizziness; high eye pressure; pain in joint/muscle; sore throat; nausea; changed stools; menstrual periods changes; convulsions; depression; diarrhea; vomiting.
In case you feel some other effects, contact your health care provider as soon as possible.
More Information
Reglan should be taken only by those patients for whom it is prescribed. You should not give it to others. If your symptoms become worse and do not improve, contact your doctor.
