Terramycin (Tetracycline)
Uses of the Drug
Terramycin is an antibiotic known as tetracycline. It helps in treating bacterial infections.
How to Take
Terramycin should be taken as per the doctor’s recommendations. The label of the medicine should be checked for the right instruction on dosing.
Terramycin can be taken orally without eating anything.
Take Terramycin using adequate amount of water.
If you are taking antacids that contain magnesium aluminum, or calcium,; preparations containing zinc, bismuth, iron, or calcium rich foods (eg, dairy products, milk, calcium-enriched juices),or sodium bicarbonate; don’t take it within 2-3 hours prir to or just after using Terramycin.
You should consult your doctor in case of any query. After taking Terramycin .
Even though you feel good do not stop taking Terramycin. A single dose should not be missed. Complete the course to heal the infection completely.
Drug Mechanism and Class
Terramycin is considered to be the tetracycline antibiotic. It functions by slowing down the bacterial growth by ???interfering’ with protein production required by bacteria for growing. When the growth of the bacteria is slowed down, the defense mechanism of the body destroys the bacteria.
Missed Dose
If you ever miss a single dosage of Terramycin, try taking it as early as you can. If it’s time for the next dosage, then the already missed dosage should be skipped. You can now follow the regular schedule of dosing. 2 doses should not be taken simultaneously.
Storage
Terramycin should be stored at the room temperature somewhere between 20 to 25 degrees C (68 to 77 degrees F). It should be kept away from children and pets. Terramycin should be stored away from light, moisture and heat.
Warnings Precautions
Terramycin should NOT be taken if:
- you are prone to allergies to a single ingredient present in Terramycin
- you take methoxyflurane or acitretin
You should get in touch with the doctor very soon if you notice any of the above-mentioned problems.
Some of the medical conditions might have interaction with Terramycin. Inform your pharmacist or doctor in case you are having any other diseases and particularly if you are having any one of the below mentioned list:
- if you have conceived, or planning to get pregnant, or breast-feeding
- if you take any nonprescription or prescription medicine, dietary supplement, or herbal preparation
- if you are allergic to foods, medicines, or some other substances
- if you are having diarrhea, kidney problems, or stomach infection
Some of the MEDICINES MIGHT HAVE INTERACTION with Terramycin . Inform your pharmacist or doctor in case you notice any one of the below mentioned medicines:
- isotretinoin or Acitretin since side effects, like increased pressure within the fluid around the brain, might occur
- Digoxin, methoxyflurane, methotrexate, or some oral anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) as Terramycin Atovaquone might increase their adverse side effects.
Common Side Effects
All medicines can have side effects. However, there are some people who have either less or no side effects. Check whether you have any of the side effects as mentioned below and in that case consult your doctor as soon as possible:
* blurred vision; Black hairy tongue; diarrhea; bulky loose stools; difficulty swallowing; hives; fever; headache; hoarseness; inflammation or redness of tongue; indigestion; joint pain; mouth sores; loss of appetite; sensitivity to sunlight; nausea; rash; sore throat; itching and swelling of rectum and stomach pain.
You should consult your doctor immediately in case you have the serious side effects as mentioned below:
* Serious allergic reactions (hives; rash; itching; tightness in chest; difficulty in breathing; swelling of face, lips, mouth, or tongue); itching; infection (chills, fever, sore throat);nausea; vaginal discharge or irritation; vomiting; severe skin sensitivity to sun.
