Drug Uses
Femara treats postmenopausal women who have a canser of breast cancer which cannot be treated by commonly-used anti-estrogen medications. It can also treat women who have no menstrual cycle after surgery who suffer early breast cancer which is sensitive to hormones.
How Taken
Use Femara by mouth once a day. Take it with food or without it. Proceed using this medicine unless directed to do so by your health care provider.
Drug Class and Mechanism
This anti-estrogen medication helps to treat postmenopausal women who have breast cancer. This disease is affected by estrogens, the main source of which are adrenal glands. Femara blocks aromatase producing estrogens, estrone and estradiol.
Missed Dose
In case you omit a dose of Femara, take it immediately. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up. Then go back to your usual schedule.
Storage
Save Femara at room temperature between 15-30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Keep in a hermetic and light-resistant container. Store it away from light, heat, moisture. Do not store it in the bathroom. Save this remedy out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Warnings Precautions
Contact your health care provider/doctor immediately in case some of these apply to you:
any allergies, liver diseases.
You are not adviced to drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Femara.
Using Femara alone or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
On condition you suspect you are pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. You should discuss all benefits and risks of taking Femara during your pregnancy. It is not known whether Femara passes into human breast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Stop breast-feeding while using this medication.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor if any of these side effects take place:
diarrhea, headache, dizziness, pain in chest/stomach, trouble breathing,
hot flushes, rash, itching, fatigue, nausea, constipation.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
More Information
Femara should be taken only by those patients for whom it is prescribed. You should not give it to others.
If your symptoms become worse and do not improve, contact your doctor.
