Drug Uses
Prograf is known to prevent transplanted organs’ rejection.
How Taken
Take the medication as determined by your doctor. Read the medicine label for precise dosing instructions carefully.
As a rule, you should take oral Prograf is two times a day. Anyway, prescribed dosages vary. It is adviced to use Prograf without food. If you must take this medication with food (eg., if you have an abdominal pain) use Prograf with food which does not contain fat.
Drug Class and Mechanism
This medication is used to suppress the system of immunity. Moreover, it prevents rejection of organs which are transplanted. Prograf inhibits an enzyme necessary for formation of T-cells. T-cells are known to be necessary in the immune process. Prograf enable transplantation experts to decrease steroids dosage which are taken to inhibit rejection as well. In case enormous dosages of steroids are taken for a long time various side effects may take place. Prograf is taken in patients with heart, liver, small bowel, kidney, bone marrow transplantations.
Missed Dose
If you omit a dose of Prograf, take it immediately. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up. Then go back to your usual schedule.
Storage
Keep the medication at temperature between 15 to 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Store it away from light, heat and moisture. Do not store Prograf in the bathroom. Save it beyond the reach of children and away from pets.
Warnings Precautions
Contact your doctor if any of these side effects take place:
infection signs, unexplained growths.
Sometimes certain medical conditions interact with Prograf . Tell your pharmacist or doctor in case you have the following medical conditions:
high blood pressure, diabetes, liver or kidney disease, allergies, heart problems.
This medicine should not be taken during pregnancy because it may cause harm to human fetus. If you suspect you are pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. You should discuss all benefits and risks of taking Prograf during your pregnancy. It is not known whether this medication passes into human breast milk. Stop breast-feeding while using Prograf.
Possible Side Effects
Laboratory tests may be performed when you take Prograf. Such tests help to control your health condition and check side effects. You should not avoid all laboratory and doctor appointments.
Contact your doctor if any of these side effects take place:
pain in joints, seizures, nausea , vomiting, tremor, fever, high sensitivity to light, vision problems, trouble sleeping, baldness, anemia, loss of appetite, diarrhea, high potassium levels, high blood pressure, infection, eyes/skin yellowing, kidney problems, ankles swlling, headache, rash, high blood sugar levels, and abdominal pain, confusion.
More Information
Prograf should be taken only by those patients for whom it is prescribed. You should not give it to others.
