Drug Uses
Sinequan helps to treat depression. Sometimes it may be taken for some other conditions as directed by your doctor.
How Taken
Take the medication as determined by your doctor. Read the medicine label for precise dosing instructions carefully. As a rule, Sinequan is taken by mouth with food or without it. In case you have a stomach upset, it should be taken with food for reducing the irritation of stomach. Use the drug with a glass of water following the directions of your doctor. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Contact your health care provider in case you have some questions about using Sinequan.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Sinequan is considered to be a tricyclic antidepressant. IThe medicine activates some brain elements and elevates mood.
Missed Dose
If you omit a dose of Sinequan, take it immediately. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up. Then go back to your usual schedule.
Storage
Store the drug below 30 degrees C (86 degrees F). Keep in a hermetic and light-resistant container. Store it away from light, heat and moisture. Do not store it in the bathroom. Save Sinequan beyond the reach of children and away from pets.
Warnings Precautions
You must not take Sinequan if:
you have allergia to ingredientsof this medicine;
you are allergic to tricyclic antidepressants;
you suffer from prostate problems or trouble urinating;
you have glaucoma;
you are currently using ibutilide, clonidine or H1 antagonist;
you have taken some MAOI within the last two weeks.
Contact your health care provider/doctor immediately in case some of these apply to you.
Sometimes certain medical conditions interact with Sinequan. Tell your pharmacist or doctor in case you have the following medical conditions:
if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant;
if you are breast-feeding;
if you are currently using some herbal preparation, certain dietary supplement
or prescription/nonprescription medicine;
if you are allergic to some substances (medicines, foods etc.);
if you have/have ever had of heart problems, convulsions, overactive thyroid, blood problems, mental/mood problems, prostate diseases;
if you have/had suicidal thoughts;
if you are depend on alcohol.
There are some medications interacting with Sinequan . Inform your health care provider in case you are currently taking any other medicines, especially the following ones:
Side effects of tramadol, anticoagulants, sulfonylureas, sympathomimetics, H1 antagonists, ibutilide may be hightened by Sinequan.
Carbamazepine, cimetidine, mibefradil, phenothiazines, antiarrhythmics, antifungal medicines, SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) may increase the risk of side effects of Sinequan.
Sinequan may decrease the positive effects of guanethidine, guanfacine, clonidine and guanadrel.
Certain medications of the group of MAOI may provoke severe toxic effects.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor if any of these side effects take place:
vomiting; weakness; rapid gain of weight; loss of appetite; constipation; severe headache; heartburn; indigestion; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; sweating; urinary retention.
Ask for medical attention immediately in case any of these serious side effects take place:
serious allergic reactions (chest tightness; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; rash; hives; difficulty breathing)
sore throat; insomnia; bleeding/bruising; eyes/skin yellowing; unusual movements; changed behavior; anxiety; vision problems; pain in chest; pain in eyes; irregular heartbeat; nervousness; panic attacks; convulsions; loss of hair; hallucinations; irritability; balance loss.
More Information
Sinequan should be taken only by those patients for whom it is prescribed. You should not give it to others. If your symptoms become worse and do not improve, contact your doctor. Contact your health care provider in case you have some questions about using Sinequan.
